of Sussex, Falmer House |
Brief:
A building to serve as the focus of the activities of the
New University, containing refectory, bars, common rooms,
debating chamber and space for meetings and games. Allowance
to be made for future expansion.
Design Solution:
Falmer house was first building to be constructed on the University
site and was conceived as a Gatehouse Quadrangle. The Courtyard
forms the main pedestrian entrance to the University and is
surrounded by an ornamental moat.
It received the RIBA Bronze Medal in 1963.
